Chapter Twenty-Four.
âShould we call an ambulance?â
âNo, I think sheâs coming around now. Maybe get her a bottle of water.â
âCan we get some water over here?â The voices â those voices. One tender and obviously worried; one sounding every so slightly pissed off. They were so familiar, but I was stuck in a haze. Music was pumping in my ears and through the lids of my eyes I could see lights; purple, pink and orange. Where the hell was I?
I opened my eyes, looking up through my lashes to try and decipher what had just happened. Two pairs of eyes looked down at me. Topaz and emerald. My eyes widened and I sat up, scuttling until my back hit something. I looked up. I was against the bar. My head hurt and I groaned as I felt the lump through the thick of my hair.
âAre you ok Grace?â Nateâs voice was so warm and full of concern, concern that I didnât deserve. I could still see the hurt in his eyes that Iâd registered before Iâd passed out.
âIâm sure sheâs fine. Itâs hot in here, thatâs all.â Dan was less concerned and was finding it difficult to keep the edge out of his voice. I felt like a deer in headlights. There they both were, knelt right before me. What where the chances? Mia was going to have a field day when I filled her in, if she even believed me in the first place. It was all too surreal. I swallowed â searching for my voice.
âIâm ok. Sorry â I feel so stupid.â Stupid was putting it mildly. I felt like a Class A idiot. How could I have just fainted in front of the two hottest, nicest guys Iâd ever met? âHow long was I out?â
âLong enough,â Dan said. My eyes flicked to his; I was stung by the callousness in his tone. âLetâs go sit back down at the table. Care to join us brother?â Nate looked to me, debating whether or not it would be a good idea but whatever he saw in my face must have convinced him. He nodded slowly. They both held out their hands to pull me up and as I took them both, I could no longer deny what Iâd really known all along. Dan could be the nicest guy in the world, but there was something stronger than mere attraction between Nate and me. I could feel his eyes on me as we walked back to the table. It wasnât a sensation I was enjoying much.
We sat down and Dan took the chair next to mine, slinging his arm over the back of my shoulder in the most macho move Iâd ever seen. It couldnât have been more possessive or more of a warning, than if heâd dropped his trousers and peed on me. It made my skin crawl. Why was he acting like this? I wanted to push him away, but I resisted. The situation was bad enough without me making it any worse.
